Tower Market Coming to Cathedral City

CATHEDRAL CITY — With a unanimous vote of support, this community joined a growing list of Coachella Valley cities that will have a Tower Market accessible to residents.

Tower Market,  a hybrid of a convenience store and fresh market, currently has stores in Palm Desert, La Quinta, and Coachella.

“Thanks for coming to Cathedral City,” Mayor Mark Carnevale told the operators.

Tower Market sells grocery items, fresh vegetables, as well as quick food for takeout like sandwiches and pizzas. They also sell everything you can find at a traditional convenience store. Additionally, the new market will have 24 parking space and 12 gas pumps for easy convenience.

The City Council on Wednesday approved thet 5,238 square-foot-market. The city’s Architectural Review Committee and Planning Commission ha previously approved it as well.

“I am happy to see this materialize and coming together,” Mayor Pro Tem John Aguilar said.

Aguilar wanted assurances that tobacco and alcohol products would be strictly monitored to protect underage patrons.

Operators assured him that all tobacco products are kept behind the counter and not within easy reach. They also assured Aguilar that their employees are well-trained against selling alcohol to minors.

“We’ve been doing this sine 1997,” one of the Tower Market operators said.

Construction is expected to begin soon at the northwest corner of Date Palm Drive and Ortega Road. For years, this corner has been the site of blight and boarded homes.

Thet single-story structure is not your typical convenience store. The exterior will be California Spanish style with desert-scheme landscaping. It will also have a parking canopy.

Tower Mart stores are designed to be affordable and a convenient place to find all your grocery and household needs. The stores are promoted as “competitively priced,”
