PALM SPRINGS — Characters from “Toy Story 4” are helping spread the word about the importance of libraries nationwide in September for Library Card Sign-Up Month.
The Palm Springs Public Library is joining the American Library Association and libraries across the country this month, a time set aside each year to remind everyone all that the Library has to offer the community.
This year, Disney and Pixar’s “Toy Story 4” characters Woody, Buzz Lightyear, Bo Peep and friends are the national ambassadors helping to spread the word about the importance of libraries. Anyone who visits the Palm Springs Public Library in September will receive limited edition Toy Story 4 character bookmarks and stickers. The supply is limited so do not wait.
A library card opens a world of infinite possibilities through resources and services that provide tools to students and lifelong learners to succeed in school and beyond, according to Julie Warren of the Palm Springs Public Library. From online homework help and language learning, to Career Online High School diploma program and online job resources; there is an array of online tools accessible with your library card.
Libraries also offer free and fun educational activities for all ages that bring families and communities together; from preschool and family story times, to teen meet-up programs and weekly lectures and programs for adults on topics from nature, health, computer skills and more; libraries transform lives through education and access, according to Warren.
Your library card really is the most valuable card in your wallet, according to Warren. Why buy when you can borrow the latest best sellers, blockbuster movies and television series DVDs to binge watch? Not to mention streaming TV through Kanopy and Acorn TV, downloadable ebooks, access to genealogy tools like Ancestry.com and HertiageQuest without a subscription, plus music, videos and e-magazines that you can keep once you download.

Since 1987, Library Card Sign-up Month has been held each September to mark the beginning of the school year. During the month, the American Library Association and libraries unite in a national effort to ensure every child signs up for their own library card.
