Fatal Traffic Collision Claims Life of 20-year-old
CATHEDRAL CITY — A 20-year-old resident was the victim of a fatal traffic collision that happened on June 18 at approximately 9:13 p.m., according to a Cathedral City Police Department news release.
Officers were dispatched to the area of Date Palm Drive, north of 35th Avenue regarding a traffic collision involving a vehicle and a motorcycle. Upon arrival, officers located the motorcyclist, an adult male, with major injuries and unresponsive. Cathedral City Fire Department responded to the scene and attempted life-saving measures. The motorcyclist succumbed to his injuries on scene.
The Riverside County coroner Monday afternoon identified the man who died as Zachariah Acosta of Cathedral City.
The male driver and sole occupant of the vehicle involved was not injured and was not under the influence of alcohol/drugs, according to police. Witnesses on scene stated the motorcyclist was traveling northbound on Date Palm Drive at a high rate of speed. The driver of the vehicle involved was exiting from the Royal Palms Country Club, onto Date Palm Drive.
The Cathedral City Police Department Traffic Division responded to investigate the collision. North and southbound traffic on Date Palm Drive between 35th Avenue and Victoria Drive was closed for several hours. All lanes of travel have been re-opened.
