CATHEDRAL CITY — This is a big week for the City Council as a special meeting will be held on Wednesday, January 7 at 3 p.m. to interview applicants and appoint a new Councilmember to represent District 3.
Twelve (12) individuals submitted the required letter of interest prior to the deadline of December 29, 2025, at 5 p.m. and meet the requirements as outlined.

Council will have the opportunity to speak to each interested individual that submitted a letter, hear testimony from the public, discuss amongst themselves, and make an appointment.
The Cathedral City City Council approved a process at its Dec. 10, 2025, regular meeting to fill the District 3 seat left vacant by the passing of Councilmember Mark Carnevale on Nov. 16, 2025.
Residents interested in serving on the City Council were welcome to submit a letter of interest by 5 p.m. on Monday, December 29, 2025. To be eligible, applicants must be registered voters and residents of District 3.
The appointed Councilmember will serve the remainder of Councilmember Carnevale’s term, which expires in November 2026.
Councilmember Carnevale was first elected in 2014 and served the community with distinction for more than a decade, including serving as Mayor twice.
