Annual Veterans Fishing Derby Set at Lake Cahuilla Veterans Regional Park

Veterans Fishing Derby Set for SaturdayLA QUINTA — It’s time for one of the area’s favorite competitions: The Annual Veterans Fishing Derby, which is now in its third year, at Lake Cahuilla Veterans Regional Park.

The derby, a skills event, is set for Saturday, Feb. 17 and is open to everyone. It starts at 7 a.m., with prizes awarded at noon.

Participants are encouraged to pre-register online at arcg.is/DOWOu

In order to be in contention for any derby prize, all fish must be freshly caught, fresh in appearance, not stiff or frozen. Prizes will be awarded by the length of trout caught during the derby. Anglers must fish with only ONE rod and rod must be closely attended.

Entry to Lake Cahuilla is free that day for all who want to visit as well as fish.  To enter the derby, there is a $5 CASH derby fee (paid at the derby booth).  There is no derby fee for veterans, military and their guests in vehicle, or for children and youth under 16.  A state fishing license is required for all over the age of 16 to fish.

All money raised will go to benefit local veterans’ organizations.
