Illegal Firearms Located in Coachella Residence

COACHELLA — The Coachella Community Action Team, with the assistance of the Southern Coachella Valley Community Services District Team, at 5 p.m. on May 15, served a weapons-related search warrant at a residence in the 46000 block of Tyler Street.

During a search of the residence, deputies located three non-serialized illegal firearms, several high-capacity magazines, and ammunition. The firearms seized included an assault rifle and two Glock-style semi-automatic handguns. The two handguns were modified with a device commonly referred to as a “switch,” which converts the weapon into a fully automatic firearm.

During the search warrant service, Juan Madrigal, an 18-year-old of Coachella, and a 15-year-old juvenile were taken into custody without incident and arrested for multiple firearm-related charges.

Juan Madrigal was booked at the John Benoit Detention Center for possession of a machine gun, possession of a non-serialized loaded firearm, child endangerment, and violation of probation.

The 15-year-old juvenile was booked at Indio Juvenile Hall for a juvenile in possession of a firearm, juvenile in possession of a machine gun, juvenile in possession of a non-serialized firearm, and juvenile in possession of ammunition.
