Celebrating 60 Years of Advancing Students’ Educational Dreams [Sponsored]

PALM DESERT — College of the Desert (COD) is commemorating its 60th graduating class this month since its doors were opened to the community in 1962. The Class of 2024 will enter the workforce with the skills needed to thrive in the Coachella Valley across a variety of professions ranging from nurses to teachers to engineers, and everything in between.

Since the College’s early years, more than 125,000 students have graduated, adding significant socioeconomic value to the Coachella Valley. Together, COD and its students add more than $360 million in annual revenue to our local economy and help drive us towards a better future.

With the abundance of technology and resources available, the Class of 2024 has more opportunities to excel in the workforce and in life with the education they have received. We’ve never been more connected in the world than we are today, and these students are more capable of making a significant impact than ever before.

Recently, students attended the 2024 Grad Fest held at the Palm Desert Campus Gymnasium where they enjoyed an afternoon of pre-Commencement festivities. At Grad Fest, graduates received their graduation regalia—courtesy of the COD Foundation—decorated their caps, took professional graduation photos, spoke with reps from four-year colleges and universities, and enjoyed refreshments.

College of the Desert continues to expand its reach in the Coachella Valley, with construction of its long-awaited new Palm Springs campus slated to begin later this year that will support increased student enrollment. This new campus will allow students to learn and train for careers in popular fields including film and digital media, culinary arts, hospitality, healthcare, and sustainable technologies. The planned 29-acre campus will feature an on-site hotel and restaurant, a teaching kitchen, modern instruction spaces and labs, and various student commons and event spaces.

College of the Desert is focused on providing affordable higher education to prospective students across the Coachella Valley, whether coming straight from high school or looking to bolster their education for a future career.

As these students transition to the real world, many will enter the workforce for the first time, while others return with an enhanced skillset and a new outlook. The teachers and faculty are incredibly proud of all the Class of 2024 has achieved during their tenure at College of the Desert and eagerly await their future accomplishments.
