Brandon Straka to visit Coachella Valley to tell what really happened Jan. 6

RANCHO MIRAGE — Brandon Straka, the founder of the conservative “#WalkAway” campaign, will be in the Coachella Valley on Monday, Nov. 7 to “tell what really happened on Jan. 6, 2020.” He was there.

He will be the featured lunch speaker for the East Valley Republican Women Patriots.

Back in Sept. 2021, he agreed to plead guilty to a misdemeanor charge of Engaging in Disorderly and Disruptive Conduct in the Capitol Building or Grounds. At sentencing, he avoided jail time, and instead received 90 days of home confinement and three years’ probation, according to npr.org.

Straka moved with the crowd to the steps of the Capitol building during the Jan. 6 riot and was filming on his smartphone, according to npr.org. According to a statement of offense Straka signed and agreed to as part of his plea, he yelled “go, go, go” as members of the mob tried to enter the building, and said “take it, take it,” after rioters grabbed a shield from a police officer. Straka never entered the Capitol building, and left shortly afterwards.

That evening, as officers were trying to clear the Capitol building, Straka tweeted “Patriots at the Capitol – HOLD. THE. LINE!!!!” He later said that he did not understand the full extent of the violence when he tweeted that comment.

At his sentencing hearing, Straka said he was “deeply sorry and shameful for being present at an event that sent members of Congress running in fear to evacuate a building.”

He also expressed remorse for the incident involving the shield.

He pleaded guilty to disorderly conduct on Capitol in October 2021. Straka will have to pay a $5,000 fine, the maximum fine allowed, and an additional $500 for the damage done to the Capitol building by the mob, according to CNN.

Straka is a pro-Trump organizer and social media influencer who spoke at a Washington, DC, rally the day before the US Capitol attack.

A self-described “former liberal,” Straka founded the #WalkAway campaign to encourage people to leave the Democratic Party.

According to its website, “the #WalkAway Campaign encourages and supports those on the Left to walk away from the divisive tenets endorsed and mandated by the Democratic Party of today. Today’s leftist pseudo-liberalism is more committed to expanding the scope of government and pushing us into collectivism.”

The lunch will be from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Agua Caliente Resort Casino, 32-250 Bob Hope Drive in Rancho Mirage.

Make reservations by calling (760) 771-9771.
