Brian Nestande endorses Aurora Wilson for COD seat

PALM DESERT — Former Assemblymember and California Republican Party leader Brian Nestande joins a list of supporters of College of the Desert Trustee Aurora Wilson’s re-election campaign, according to a news release issued Monday, Oct. 3.

“Aurora Wilson’s knowledge, experience, and dedication to serving students and
our communities make her the right choice for COD Trustee,” Nestande said in a prepared statement.”

It’s a unique twist in this race because at one time, Nestande was challenging Wilson for the seat to represent Trustee Area 4 on the Desert Community College District Board. He had raised $65,000 in his bid, which was abruptly cut short in August when he learned that he is not eligible to run in Trustee Area 4.

Nestande joins Rancho Mirage Mayor Charles Townsend, on a list of elected officials that have endorsed Aurora Wilson.

That list includes California Assembly Speaker Anthony Rendon, Assemblymember Eduardo Garcia, Supervisor V. Manuel Perez, and Riverside County Superintendent of Schools Dr. Edwin Gomez.

Wilson has also gained support among political groups such as the Inland Empire Labor Council, Democratic Women of the Desert, the Faculty of California Community Colleges, and the Southwest Carpenters Union Local 951.

“Education is a bipartisan issue. Working together can only benefit our students. We
want students and their families to not only stay and grow here but also offer the
education and job training programs that will bring new families to the Coachella Valley
and grow our economy,” Wilson said in a statement.

Appointed to the College of the Desert Board of Trustees in 2013, elected in 2014, and
re-elected in 2018, Wilson has also served on numerous nonprofit boards.
