Student production of Canterbury Tales is must-see theater

Shadow Hills High School’s production of The Canterbury Tales is now open. The production runs through Oct. 22 at the school’s performing arts center.

Performances will be at 7 p.m. today, Friday, Oct. 21. A matinee performance will take place on Saturday, Oct. 22 at 2 p.m.

In the event you are unfamiliar with the play, The Canterbury Tales follows a group of roughly 30 strangers assembled at the Tabard Inn for a pilgrimage to Canterbury to pay homage to the shrine of St. Becket, the patron saint of clergy, according to a synopsis provided by Study.com. The host of the inn wants the group to enjoy their journey and proposes an offer: whoever tells the best tale on the way to Canterbury will win a free dinner, on him. He swears on his father’s grave and makes a serious bet: if the group doesn’t enjoy the trip, they can kill him. It’s a bit extreme, but the travelers agree to it.
