CATHEDRAL CITY – Cathedral City firefighters have held out their boots to raise money for the Muscular Dystrophy Association, they have participated in the Memorial Stair Climb to help raise money for firefighters and their families in distress. Now, they are raising money for pediatric cancer.

On Nov. 2, Cathedral City Professional Firefighters Association Local 3654 will host Stachetober. There will be raffle prizes, a silent auction, music, awards, cocktails, and more.

In recent years the event is gaining popularity among firefighters and paramedics across the country. They grow mustaches in the name of cancer awareness during the month of October. This effort hits close to home in Cathedral City.

“The fundraiser is a neat way of raising money for whatever organization you choose,” Capt. CJ Sanborn told Uken Report. “I personally chose pediatric cancer because I feel there are so many different cancer organizations out there, but it seems there are not as many pediatric-specific ones. Also, one of our own firefighters, several years ago, dealt with this while one of his daughters was battling cancer.”

Stachetober just makes it fun growing out a mustache for an event where there are prizes, raffles, and silent auction items, Sanborn said.

“I have been to many of these over the years and decided it was time that we started one in Cathedral city,” Sanborn said. “We will be donating to the Desi Strong Foundation.”

Desi was a little girl who became ill with cancer. She fought hard, but died in March 2016. Her spirit lives on though through the Desi Strong Foundation. This fundraiser gives every penny raised directly to the children and their families to help fight pediatric cancer.

Cathedral City Firefighters will also sell T-shirts for $20 in both men’s and women’s styles.

Dinner reservations are $22 and can be made by sending an email to CJ at ccpfastachetober@gmail.com or on their Facebook page by clicking here.

The event will be held from 5:30 p.m. to 11 p.m. at the Desert Princess Country Club, 28555 Landau Blvd., Cathedral City.
