Cathedral City Councilmember Rita Lamb Declares, ‘Cathedral City is on Fire!’

CATHEDRAL CITY — Following a successful spring that included LGBT Days; the introduction of a wildly popular “Tastes & Sounds of Cathedral City;” the groundbreaking for a 7.5-acre park in the Dream Homes neighborhood next year and more, Councilmember Rita Lamb told Uken Report, “The city is on fire.”

The 2024 MiChavela Festival is hoping to capitalize on that fire. Organizers are requesting use of the Community Amphitheater for the fall event on Saturday, Sept. 14, and are seeking a Special Use Permit from the City Council on Wednesday. Staff is recommending approval.

The MiChavela Festival 2024, in partnership with Luchador Brewing Company, brings food, fun, music, and drinks to Downtown Cathedral City on Saturday, Sept. 14, which is Mexican Independence Day weekend.

The event will feature Miche vendors, live music, a Lucha Libre match, food trucks, a beer garden with more than 20 choices of beer, artisan vendors, lowrider classic car show and much more for the whole family to enjoy, according to Ryan Hunt, communications and events manager.

This will be a public (ticketed) event. Tickets will start at $12 for presale and $15 for the day of the event. Event organizers will have guards conducting searches at the entrance of the event, patrolling the inside of the event, checking IDs of those who wish to purchase alcoholic beverages and placing a special wristband on them, while keeping close eyes on bar areas. A total of five to six security personnel will be onsite for the event.

It’s similar programming to the event held last year on the Festival Lawn Annex, Hunt told Uken Report.

“It’s just moving to the amphitheater since they had to turn people away last year,” Hunt said. “(There were) 1,600 attendees in September 2023, so they’re looking for a larger footprint.”
