City Council to Consider Agreement with PSUSD to Use Cathedral City High School Swimming Pool for Public Use in 2024 Summer Months

CATHEDRAL CITY — For the second consecutive year, it appears members of the public will be able to cool off, swim laps and get in some water aerobics at the Cathedral City Swimming Pool.

The City Council on Wednesday will consider a Joint Use Agreement with the Palm Springs Unified School District and Desert Recreation District for operation of the Cathedral City High School Swimming Pool for public use during the summer months. Staff recommends approval.

The total cost of this agreement is $118,553 which consists of:

  • $60,417 to PSUSD for the use of the facility, pool operations, and custodial; and
  • $58,136 to DRD for administering the programming.

Additionally, the City Council has allocated $3,300 out of their its FY 2023/2024 for swim-lesson scholarships.

Pending approval of the contract, public use of the CCHS swimming pool would be from June 10 through and including Aug. 9, and will be based on the following schedule:

  • Monday and Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Saturday from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m.

The pool will be closed to public use from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays for the use of the CCHS swim team and on Sundays.
