Suspect in Fatal Stabbing Arrested Following Two-hour Search

PALM SPRINGS — One person is under arrest following a fatal stabbing in a south side neighborhood Sunday, marking the first murder in Palm Springs in 17 months, according to the Police Department.

The 22-year-old suspect, identified by Palm Springs Police as Evan Steele, was located after an “intensive search” that lasted almost two hours both on the ground and from the air, according to a statement released by the department. Steel was apprehended and arrested without incident. He faces charges of first-degree murder in the stabbing. There was no further threat to the community.

Just after 9 p.m., witnesses reported hearing a “domestic disturbance” on the 500 block of Tiki Drive. Officers found the victim outside the home with multiple stab wounds. Medics arrived and took him to a nearby hospital for treatment, where he later died, according to the police.

“Steele had recently been in a relationship with the victim and acted alone,” according to police. “PSPD remains committed to ensuring justice for the victim and his family.”

Police ask all residents who may have any additional information on this crime to contact Detective Michael Delgado at 760-323-8145.
