The suspect in this case is deceased. His name is not being released, pending the Riverside County Coroner’s office notifications., according to Commander Jon Enos.
The victim sustained an injury to his torso, was treated at a local hospital and has since been released.
As the investigation progresses, more information will be released when available.
Assault with Deadly Weapon Call Leads to Officer-Involved Shooting
CATHEDRAL CITY —On March 2, at 7:08 p.m. Cathedral City Police received a 911 call regarding an assault with a deadly weapon on Via Minorca in the Date Palm Country Club, Commander Jon Enos reported Tuesday, March 3. The reporting party stated a person known to them had forced their way into the residence and stabbed one of the occupants.
Upon arrival, officers contacted the suspect outside the residence, armed with the weapon. Shortly after, an officer-involved shooting occurred. A weapon was recovered at the scene. Cathedral City Fire & EMS personnel tended to both the victim and suspect and transported them to a local hospital for treatment. No officers were injured during this incident.
Cathedral City Police Detectives arrived at the scene to investigate the initial assault. The Riverside County Sheriff’s Force Investigation Detail responded to the scene to investigate the officer-involved shooting. The Cathedral City Police Department’s Professional Standards Bureau will conduct an internal investigation to determine whether any policy violations occurred.
The officer, who will not be named, is a 13-year veteran of law enforcement. He will be placed on administrative leave pending the investigations.
