City of Coachella Sets Special City Council Meeting

Gabriel Martin

COACHELLA — Fireworks could ignite in the city of Coachella on Tuesday when the City Council meets in Special Session at 10 a.m.

According to the published agenda, the meeting will be held almost entirely in closed session, which is not open to the public.

The closed agenda is as follows:

PUBLIC EMPLOYEE PERFORMANCE EVALUATION
Title: City Manager

PUBLIC EMPLOYEE APPOINTMENT
Title: Acting City Manager

CONFERENCE WITH LEGAL COUNSEL – ANTICIPATED LITIGATION
Significant Exposure to Litigation Pursuant to Government Code Section 54956.9(d)(2)/(e)(1) One (1) Potential Case

The agenda looks similar to the one College of the Desert used in December when the Boad of Trustees voted to place Interim Superintendent/President on paid administrative leave with pay.

The Coachella City Manager is Gabriel Martin who was unanimously appointed in May 2021. He had been working works for the city as the economic development director. He lives in Coachella.

Martin grew up in Home Gardens, an unincorporated part of Riverside County near Corona, he said. Born in Argentina, he and his family moved to the United States when he was 2.

He holds a bachelor’s degree in economics and business administration from the University of California, Riverside, a master’s in public administration from California State University, San Bernardino, and a doctorate in public administration from the University of La Verne.
