City of Indio Appoints Miguel Ramirez-Cornejeo Economic Development Leader
INDIO —Miguel Ramirez-Cornejo has been named this community’s new Economic Development Director. With more than 15 years of experience spanning banking, workforce development, and public sector leadership, Ramirez-Cornejo brings a wealth of expertise and a proven track record of fostering economic growth to the Coachella Valley’s fastest-growing city.
He fills the role of the man credited with bringing 30 new projects and more than $350 million in public and private investments to this community. Economic Development Director, Carl Morgan. He announced his retirement from the City of Indio after eight years and six months of dedicated public service. His official retirement date is Dec. 31.
Ramirez-Cornejo has been a driving force behind the revitalization of Downtown Indio, where over $200 million in public and private investments have transformed the area into a vibrant cultural and economic hub. His efforts include the attraction of new restaurants and retail businesses, development of market-rate apartments, upgraded infrastructure, and public art installations.
As Economic Development Director, Ramirez-Cornejo will continue to lead the City’s efforts to attract and retain businesses, enhance workforce development opportunities, and cultivate strategic partnerships that benefit the community. His leadership extends beyond Downtown Indio, including the Highway 111 corridor revitalization, auto center expansion, and the successful attraction of new hotels and retail businesses. Miguel also manages the city’s Economic Development projects, promoting opportunity sites to investors and developers.
“Miguel’s visionary leadership and dedication to economic development have already had a transformative impact on Indio,” said City Manager Bryan Montgomery. “We are confident that his expertise and commitment to our community will continue to propel Indio’s growth and success.”
Before joining Indio, Ramirez-Cornejo held leadership roles with the cities of Moreno Valley and Eastvale, where he managed workforce initiatives, launched innovative economic development programs, and supported small business growth. His private-sector experience includes positions with Altura Credit Union, PFF Bank and Trust, Provident Bank, and HomeStreet Bank, where he developed skills in business development, customer service, and operational management.

Ramirez-Cornejo recently earned his certification as an Accredited California Economic Developer (ACE) and holds a master’s degree in organizational leadership from California Baptist University.
