Daniel Pitts Announces Candidacy for District #2 Council Seat in Desert Hot Springs.

DESERT HOT SPRINGS —Daniel Pitts has announced his intention to seek a seat on the City Council seat in District 2 in for the November 2024 elections.

This marks the first election in District 2 since the city moved to District elections. Currently, both Roger Nunez and Russ Betts live in the boundaries of District 2, so the seat has two members at the moment.  Betts is running for mayor. while Nunez announced he’s running to retain his seat in District 2.

Pitts has served on the Board of Directors at the Yucca Valley Chamber of Commerce, dedicating his efforts to boosting and supporting local businesses. Pitts also is past president at Diversity DHS, a non-profit LGBTQ+ organization that embraces and celebrates diversity in all its forms.

His most recent involvement as the former HOA President in the private community of Mountain View underscored his leadership and community-building skills, according to his website. During his tenure, he introduced a range of community programs and neighborhood committees, fostering a sense of unity among residents in Desert Hot Springs. Noteworthy initiatives included the establishment of a Social Activities Committee, an Architecture (ARC) committee, as well as a Public Safety and Neighborhood Watch Committee, and the Citizens on Patrol program.

With a background in public safety, business advocacy, and community engagement, Pitts says he brings valuable experience to promote thriving neighborhoods. Having worked in public safety management across various California cities, Pitts said he has collaborated extensively with local law enforcement agencies to improve community safety and aesthetics, contributing to the enhancement of property values.

Identifying concerns about the current direction of the city, Pitts outlined a four-part platform focusing on budget and responsible spending, creating a safer community, economic development, and addressing the local homelessness crisis.

Drawing from his diverse experience in private organization management and public administration, Pitts said he aims to address the City’s issues with practical solutions and a common-sense approach.

Pitts said his campaign is about introducing a fresh vision, a new perspective, and a reimagined future for Desert Hot Springs.

On April 5, 2022, the City Council adopted Ordinance 754 approving Map 1.1 as the final district map and establishing a by-district election process commencing with the Nov. 8, 2022 General Municipal Election. Members of the City Council are elected by districts 1, 2, 3, and 4, with one (1) mayor elected at-large.

Members of the City Council from Council Districts 1 and 3 were elected on a by-district basis beginning with the Nov. 8, 2022, General Municipal Election and every four years thereafter.

Members of the City Council from Council Districts 2 and 4 will be elected on a by-district basis beginning with the General Municipal Election in November 2024 and every four years thereafter. One mayor shall be elected at-large in November 2024.
