Pulitzer Prize-Winning and New York Times Best-selling Author Dave Barry to Discuss His Latest Book, ‘Swamp Stories’

PALM SPRINGS — Pulitzer Prize-winning columnist, best-selling author, and humorist Dave Barry will be the next guest in season four of Palm Springs Speaks, Friends of the Palm Springs Library announced.

The talk, sponsored by his publisher Simon & Schuster, will take place at the Palm Springs Cultural Center (historic Camelot Theatre) located at 2300 East Baristo Road, Palm Springs, on Tuesday, May 9 at 7:30 p.m.

A VIP Reception, which begins at 6 p.m. will allow a limited number of attendees to have an exclusive photo opportunity with Barry on the stage and receive a copy of his “Swamp Stories” book that he will autograph. The VIP cocktail reception will be catered by LULU California Bistro.

The talk is expected to run for an hour and will be followed by a short Q&A session. His book will be for sale at the event courtesy of Follet Books, and Barry will sign copies following the talk. Tickets are $35 rear reserved (ADA spaces available), $50 general admission, $75 premium reserved, and $125 VIP (includes a copy of his book and the cocktail reception and photo opportunity with Barry). More information about the speaker series may be found atpalmspringsspeaks.org.

“Swamp Stories” is a humorous account of a broke and desperate Florida housewife who stumbles across a long-lost treasure but must elude a gang of evil men to keep it. It is a rollicking caper full of oddballs and more twists and turns than a snake slithering away from a gator.

“We are delighted to add the much-beloved humorist Dave Barry to our roster of important speakers,” said Jeannie Kays, Director of Library Services. “Barry’s new novel comes out May 2, so this talk will be an opportunity for people to hear him speak about his first new novel in a decade.”

Dave Barry is an author and humorist who won a Pulitzer Prize for his syndicated column, which ran in more than 500 newspapers and was the inspiration for the television show “Dave’s World.” He has also written dozens of bestselling books, most recently “Lessons from Lucy: The Simple Joys of an Old, Happy Dog.”

His new novel, “Swamp Story,” will be published by Simon and Schuster in May of 2023. Along with Ridley Pearson, Barry wrote the bestselling Starcatchers series of young-adult novels, one of which was adapted as the Tony-award winning Broadway play Peter and the Starcatcher.
