Evan Trubee Faces Newcomer in Bid for Second Term

PALM DESERT — Evan Trubee and his opponent in the Nov. 3 General Election were each given a series of questions from Uken Report.  The questions were identical. There were no length restrictions and answers were not edited.

Trubee’s answers follow:

UR: Why are you a better candidate than your opponent(s)?

Evan Trubee: A proven track record of success.    Palm Desert is more prosperous, safer and cleaner than when I took office four years ago.  am responsive to residents needs and helping solve problems. In addition, I have completely invested in Palm Desert.   I have spent all of my adult life here, founded my business here, raised my 3 kids here and given countless hours to this beautiful city. I know what makes Palm Desert tick.
What is your vision for the city?  Continued focus on quality of life which includes keeping our city safe, clean and prosperous. This requires sound decision-making and a familiarity with our City.

UR: How much do you plan to spend on your campaign? Keep in mind your spending and contributions are public record.

UR: How much do you plan to spend on your campaign? Keep in mind your spending and contributions are public record.

Evan Trubee: I would estimate between $60,000 and $70,00.

UR: The Data Center issue has been a major contentious issue in the Valley this past year. If a Data Center was proposed in Palm Desert, would you approve or reject and why?

Evan Trubee: Data Centers are not currently allowed under Palm Desert’s zoning regulations and I anticipate that it will remain that way.

UR: Who or what prompted you to run?

Evan Trubee  To continue our amazing record of success.

UR: What have you learned about running for public office that you did not know before?

Evan Trubee: It is fun and a great opportunity to talk about Palm Desert.

UR: The City Council recently had a budget study session that showed dipping into reserves in the not-too-distant future. Quite frankly, the council didn’t seem to see the red flags or hear the alarms.  So, what would you do or propose doing to generate revenue and stimulate economic growth to offset the high costs of public safety, infrastructure needs, etc.?

Evan Trubee:  That is the first time that our Finance Department had presented a 10-year outlook and so yes, it did take Council by surprise to learn that the possibility exists that we may face an operational deficit in years 8,9 and 10.   I would actually focus on the spending side of the ledger and making changes there rather than trying find new sources of revenue.    Our outlook on retail growth is stellar in North Palm Desert and keep in mind that our Finance Team tends to give very conservative projections on the revenue side and more dire predictions on the expense side of our projections. I value that.

UR: What is the best quality about your opponent?

Evan Trubee: I couldn’t say…I have never met him.
