Veterans Fishing Derby Returns to Lake Cahuilla on Nov. 14 in Honor of Veterans Day
LA QUINTA – Riverside County Supervisor V. Manuel Perez invites veterans, families, and community members to Lake Cahuilla Veterans Regional Park on Saturday, November 14, for the annual Veterans Fishing Derby, a community tradition celebrating military service through an evening of fishing, friendly competition, and appreciation for local veterans.
Presented by the Riverside County Regional Park and Open-Space District (RivCoParks), this year’s event will feature a catfish fishing derby from 4 to 8 p.m., with free entry for participants.
A special veterans workshop will take place from 2 to 4 p.m., followed by the fishing competition. Prizes will be awarded for the 10 largest catfish and the smallest catfish, with youth prizes presented at 8 p.m. and the awards ceremony beginning at 8:15 p.m.
The Veterans Fishing Derby was established in 2021 through the efforts of Supervisor Perez, local veteran leaders, and RivCoParks to bring the community together in support of veterans while showcasing the recreational opportunities available at Lake Cahuilla Veterans Regional Park.
“This annual tradition is about more than fishing. It is an opportunity to bring our veterans, their families, and our community together to recognize the men and women who have served our country,” said Supervisor Perez. “Lake Cahuilla Veterans Regional Park is a special place to honor their service, strengthen community connections, and enjoy the outdoors. We look forward to welcoming everyone for another memorable event.”
In celebration of Veterans Day weekend, November 13–15, RivCoParks is also offering a buy-one-night, get-one-night-free camping promotion, along with free camping for veterans. Participants are encouraged to register in advance using the QR code on the official event flyer. On-site registration will also be available.
The event is supported by sponsors including the Office of Supervisor V. Manuel Perez and Turn Key Rentals.
Lake Cahuilla Veterans Regional Park, the first park in Riverside County’s regional park system named in honor of veterans, is located at 58075 Jefferson Street, La Quinta, CA 92253.
