Fatal traffic collision claims life of one

PALM DESERT — An unidentified female pedestrian was the victim of a fatal traffic collision here on Saturday, March 4.

The driver, identified as Cameron Curtis, 31 of Palm Desert, was detained at the scene and later booked into the John Benoit Detention Center for homicide. Intoxication appears to have played a role in this collision.

At 6:06 p.m. on March 4, deputies from the Palm Desert Sheriff’s Station responded to Calliandra Street, east of Alamo Drive regarding a traffic collision. Upon arrival, deputies determined a gray Nissan Frontier traveling east on Calliandra Street collided with a female pedestrian walking along Calliandra Street.

The Palm Desert Sheriff’s Station Traffic Team responded to the location of the collision and assumed the investigation. The investigation revealed the Nissan was traveling eastbound on Calliandra Street at an unknown speed when it collided with the pedestrian.

The traffic collision investigation required the temporary closure of Calliandra Street between Alamo Drive and Heliotrope Drive.
