Hispanic female victim booked in Indio for alleged murder

Female Suspect Booked in Indio for MurderCOACHELLA — A 22-year-old resident of San Bernardino was arrested Sunday without incident and later booked into the John J. Benoit Detention Center for murder.

The arrest stems from an incident on Sunday, Jan. 14. Approximately 5:50 p.m., Deputies from the Thermal Sheriff’s Station responded to the 83000 block of Avenue 48, in the city of Coachella, after receiving multiple reports of an assault with a deadly weapon that had just occurred.

Upon arriving at the location, the deputies located a 53-year-old Hispanic female, later identified as Elba Estrada, suffering from a stab wound and lying on the ground. First aid was administered to Estrada, however, she succumbed to her injury at the location.

During the course of the initial investigation, Marilyn Cardenas, a 22-year-old resident of San Bernardino, was identified as the suspect in the incident and was arrested without incident. Cardenas was later booked into the John J. Benoit Detention Center for the murder.
