Two Republican Victories are focus of GOP women’s gathering

PALM DESERT — East Valley Republican Women Patriots are preparing to officially celebrate a pair of Republican victories stemming from the Nov. 8 election.

On Saturday, Jan. 7, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., EVRWP will celebrate the victories of Congressman Ken Calvert and Assemblymember Greg Wallis.

In the race for the 41st Congressional race, Calvert grabbed 123,869 votes, or 52.35%, while his Democratic opponent Will Rollins netted 112,769 votes, or 47.65%, according to the Riverside County Registrar of Voters.

U.S. Rep. Ken Calvert, a Republican from Corona has represented portions of the Inland Empire since 1993, and will now represent a newly drawn district that lumps several Coachella Valley cities — including Palm Springs, La Quinta, Rancho Mirage and Palm Desert — with Menifee, Norco and Corona in western Riverside County.

In the 47th State Assembly District, final vote totals showed Wallis with 84,752 votes to 84,667 for Christy Holstege, a member of the Palm Springs City Council. Wallis is a former staff member for outgoing Assemblymember Chad Mayes.

Assembly District 47 covers much of the previous 42nd district represented by Mayes and includes most of the western and central Coachella Valley. The district also includes Banning, Beaumont and Idyllwild, and extends into Yucca Valley and Yucaipa in San Bernardino County.

The celebration, which will include refreshments, drinks and entertainment, will be held at the group’s headquarters, 73995 El Paseo. RSVPs are required. Call 760-771-9771.
