Overseas Commitment Prevents LeAnn Rimes from Performing at COD Event
PALM DESERT — For the second consecutive year, the headline talent for Stepping Out for COD has canceled. This time it’s LeAnn Rimes.
It is COD Foundation’s most important fundraiser of the year.
Referring to it as “disappointing news,” Catherine Abbott, executive director of College of the Desert Foundation, made the announcement Friday during the Board of Trustees monthly meeting.
According to Abbott, Rimes cancelled her show because she will be overseas from January through April.
Abbott reassured the board she has a “few things in the works” and is “swiftly working on a replacement.”
“We are doing this,” she said emphatically.
The event has traditionally been held at the McCallum Theater but was scheduled to be moved to The Show at Agua Caliente Rancho Mirage for this year only because it has a larger seating capacity.
Stepping Out for COD is a fundraising event organized by the College of the Desert Foundation to support students in need of financial assistance. The event has been held annually for several years and has raised more than $550,000 for COD students in the past. The event has featured a variety of activities, including live music performances by renowned artists such as Ann Hampton Callaway and Luci Arnaz.
Stepping Out 2023 was a success, raising more than $550,000 for COD students, according to the Foundation.
