Two free community gatherings to learn more about foster families, care, adoption

On any given day, there are about 3,000 children in Riverside County who are placed in out-of-home care due to abuse or neglect. More quality foster homes are needed to provide safe havens. The need is especially great for sibling sets, teens, and youth with more specialized needs.

Have you ever considered opening your heart and home to a child in need?

Now is your chance to take the next step. Learn more about fostering or adoption in Riverside County and how faith-based communities and many others are ready to support families throughout their journeys and beyond.

Faith in Motion, a collaborative partnership between the Riverside County Department of Public Social Services and communities of faith, has organized two free events for those who would like to learn about fostering and adoption in Riverside County. There will be a panel discussion and breakout sessions available in English and Spanish. Information will also be provided for those interested in volunteering to help children and families in need.

Representatives from the Children’s Services Division at the DPSS, Faith in Motion, Voices for Children, CarePortal, as well as current foster families, former foster youth, and faith-based communities will be on hand to provide answers and information.

The events will be held Saturday, May 6, and June 10, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Lunch will be served.

On May 6, the session will be held at New Beginnings Community Church, 1769 Western Ave. in Norco. Please register here.

On June 10, the session will be held at Indio Assembly of God, 46923 Calhoun St. in Indio.  Please register here.

Faith in Motion is a partnership between DPSS and over 100 faith communities in Riverside County that guide parents from the point of gathering information, to the selection of a foster family agency and state certification, to adoption and beyond.
