Assembly Candidate Steps up to Help in Theft of Musical Instruments

Musical Instruments Worth $25,000 Stolen at CVUSDTHERMAL — Some $25,000 worth of musical instruments were stolen recently from Coachella Valley High School.
“Yes, unfortunately band instruments were stolen a few weeks ago,” Superintendent Frances Esparza told Uken Report. “We do have instruments for our students, but they are a little older than the instruments that were stolen. We have filed a claim with our insurance company. Therefore, if anyone would like to donate to the Music Program, they can donate to the CVUSD Education Foundation, and they would have to state that the donation is for the CVHS Music Program.”
To help raise money to replace the stolen instruments, Jeff Gonzalez, the Republican Assembly candidate running against Democrat Joey Acuña in District 36 immediately set up a GoFundMe account. Acuña is president of the board.

As of Thursday morning, $2,225 was raised of $25,000 goal.

For Gonzalez, the theft is personal.
“As a former band member, I know firsthand how crucial these instruments are in allowing young people to explore their creativity and express themselves, Gonzalez said. “This loss not only impacts our school’s music program but also robs our students of a vital outlet for their talents and passions.
“We are reaching out to our community to help us recover from this devastating blow. Your support can make a world of difference. Whether you can contribute $25, $100, $500, $1000, or more, every donation will help us replace the stolen instruments and restore our students’ access to the music education they deserve.
“Together, we can turn this setback into an opportunity to come back stronger. Please consider donating and sharing this campaign with others who might be able to help.”
Gonzalez called it a heartbreaking loss.

“It’s my responsibility because it’s my community,” Gonzalez told Uken Report. “As a leader, it’s also my responsibility to step in the gap and take on this role of caring for our kids. I don’t know what my opponent is doing. I’m focused on my community.”
