During the project, Oasis Street in the construction area will be closed in both directions.
INDIO – Construction is starting this week on a $5.5 million road repair project on Oasis Street in downtown Indio.
The Riverside County project, a project in partnership with the City of Indio, will repair Oasis Street, south of Highway 111 to Hartford Avenue, giving the badly worn road a new pavement.
The roadwork is an off-site community improvement project that follows the completion of the John J. Benoit Detention Center. This project will construct street improvements on Oasis Street and Highway 111, from Arabia Street to Smurr Street. The Highway 111 work, which will include landscaped medians and other improvements, will begin after the music festivals.
“I am glad these long-awaited street improvements are now beginning,” Supervisor V. Manuel Perez said in a prepared statement. “They will complement the revitalization that is already happening in downtown Indio. These projects are great for both the county, with our many facilities along this corridor including the Fairgrounds, and the Indio community.”
During the project, Oasis Street in the construction area will be closed in both directions. Road detours will route traffic around the construction zone.
“We are glad the county is working with the city to improve the roads around the justice center complex,” said Indio Mayor Waymond Fermon. “We know the median improvements and landscaping, smoother roads, and beautification will uplift the entire 111 corridor for students, businesses, residents, and employees coming through Indio, the eastern seat of Riverside County.”
The Riverside County Board of Supervisors awarded the construction contract for this project to Granite Construction Company in January. The $5.5 million project is being managed by the Riverside County Facilities Management Department.
The Oasis Street road closure is expected to last until late June 2022, when the Oasis Street portion of the project is completed.
