Outlaw Motorcycle Club Headquartered in Southern California Motors Into Cathedral City for Weekend
CATHEDRAL CITY — On Saturday, Sept, 19, Cathedral City Police, along with allied agencies, conducted high-visibility enforcement throughout the city and surrounding jurisdictions while the Mongols were in town.
During the operational period from about 11 a.m. to 11 p.m., officers made five, that included weapon offenses. Three handguns were seized during this day’s enforcement efforts. Officers issued 35 citations, and nine vehicles were stored and/or impounded.
“The Cathedral City Police Department is committed to public safety and will continue with enforcement through the weekend,” Commander Jon Enos said in a news release. A subsequent release will follow Monday morning, with the final results.
The Mongols Motorcycle Club, also known as the Mongol Brotherhood or Mongol Nation, is an international outlaw motorcycle club. Originally formed in Montebello, Calif. in 1969, the club is headquartered in Southern California.
The Mongols are designated an organized crime group by the United States Department of Justice, the Australian Federal Police, and Europol.
Although the Mongols’ main presence lies in California, they also have chapters nationwide in 19 states and internationally in 29 countries. Law enforcement officials estimate approximately 3,000 “full-patched” members are in the club. The Mongols are the third-largest outlaw biker club in the world, after the Hells Angels and the Outlaws.
