Political Poll Reflects What Bianco Says He Hears Campaigning

Sheriff Bianco
RIVERSIDE —Another new independent statewide political poll – this one from the LA Times and UC Berkeley – shows Riverside County Sheriff Chad Bianco as a Top Two candidate for California Governor, leading every Republican and nearly every Democrat.
A survey of 4,950 registered California voters found Bianco with a 4-point lead over the next-best Republican. Bianco also led all but one Democrat on the poll, which was in the field August 11-17.
Among those who had a preference, former Democratic Rep. Katie Porter of Irvine had a small edge as the top choice, with the backing of 17%. Riverside County Sheriff Chad Bianco, a Republican, was the only other candidate who received double-digit support, winning the backing of 10% of respondents, according to the LA Times.
“We are happy with the polls, but it is not unexpected,” Bianco told Uken Report. “Traveling the state there is an obvious sense from everyone we come into contact with that this election is going to be a turning point for California. The grassroots support is obvious as told by not only our fundraising efforts but doubling our closest competitor in the number of donors.
These longstanding California polls tend to have a pulse on California. Both recent polls, the Berkeley and the Politico, even tend to favor Democrat candidates, so this is very promising for my campaign.”
“A second statewide poll in the last week has confirmed what this campaign has known since we started – Sheriff Chad Bianco is the Republican candidate to beat in this race,” said Bianco for Governor campaign manager Erica Melendrez. “Californians are fed up with the status quo and are looking for a leader who will work to address the problems Californians care most about – our state’s sky-high cost of living and crime. Sheriff Bianco is the only candidate in this race who can deliver.”
Sheriff Bianco led his Republican opponent among all voters (Bianco +4), Republicans (Bianco +11), NPPs (Bianco +6), Latinos (Bianco + 7), Strongly Conservatives (Bianco +9), Somewhat Conservatives (Bianco +16) and Moderates (Bianco +4).
The LAT/UC Berkeley poll was released less than a week after a POLITICO poll showed Sheriff Bianco with a 5-point lead over his closest Republican opponent. The two positive polls for the Sheriff’s campaign for Governor – plus his fundraising total from the last campaign finance reporting period – has cemented Bianco’s frontrunner status among the Republican candidates.

Bianco was first elected Sheriff in 2018 and has been a law enforcement professional for more than 30 years. Upon his election, Sheriff Bianco worked to stabilize the department’s finances, increase staffing, and rebuild partnerships with other law enforcement agencies. Despite unprecedented challenges, including civil unrest and a global pandemic, Bianco led the department decisively and was re-elected in 2022.
He has been a strong voice for reforming state law to once again ensure public safety across California. Most recently, he was a leader and vocal advocate for Proposition 36, which overwhelmingly passed in November 2024 and has started to return commonsense to California’s criminal sentencing laws.
