PALM SPRINGS — A celebration that includes prizes, surprises and cupcakes is set for July 19 to celebrate the conclusion of the Palm Springs Public Library’s six-week summer reading program in which more than 1,000 participated.
The summer program, “Reading Takes You Everywhere,” ends this week. The festivities to commemorate free books and great reading will be held at 4:30 p.m. in the main atrium of the Library. The public is welcome to attend.
City dignitaries, members of the Sustainability Commission and the Friends of the Library will be on hand to draw the Grand Prize winners. Summer reading participants were able to earn weekly entry tickets and place them in the bin of the grand prize the readers wanted to try to win. There were 13 different prizes to choose from including four bicycles (with helmets) courtesy of the Palm Springs Sustainability Commission. It’s anyone guess who will win these prizes.
There is also a Fire HD 10 Tablet, Nintendo Switch Gaming Console, Star Wars Droid Inventor kit, and many other choices all courtesy of the Friends of the Palm Springs Library. One winner will be selected for each prize from the entry tickets in that bin, so the odds of winning may be high depending on the number of entries.
Summer Reading is made possible with the support of the community including a grant from the Anderson Children’s Foundation to buy books to give to the children and teens each week.
Many local merchants and organizations also provided support including: the Aquarium of the Pacific, Birba/Cheeky’s/Mr Lyons, Blaze Pizza, Broken Yoke Café, Children’s Discovery Museum of the Desert, Destination PSP, Elmer’s, Escape Room Palm Springs, Firehouse Subs, Giuseppe’s, Green Clean Express Wash, Jake’s, Johannes, Kaiser Grille, Koffi, Legoland, LuLu California Bistro, McDonalds, Mix 100.5, The Old Spaghetti Factory, Palm Springs Air Museum, Palm Springs Cultural Center, Palm Springs Power, Ralphs, The Red Dragon Karate, Rick’s Desert Grill, Round Table Pizza, Sherman’s Deli, Smokin’ Burger, Stater Bros., Wet n’ Wild, and Yogurt at its Best.
The Library will also celebrate its recent announcement of going fine free. There will be a cake courtesy of Sherman’s Deli and cupcakes from Ralphs in addition to other surprises and giveaways.
