Reel Women’s Film Festival raises money for local programs

Now in its eighth year, the Reel Women’s Film Festival is back. This one-of-a-kind event directly benefits Planned Parenthood of the Pacific Southwest. The festival raises money that goes directly to local programs and services throughout San Diego, Riverside, and Imperial counties.

“The Reel Women’s Film Festival began as a way to engage energized Planned Parenthood supporters in the Coachella Valley, and in this this virtual environment, has greatly expanded its reach,” Lauren Dockweiler, Annual Campaign and Development Operations Director for Planned Parenthood of the Pacific Southwest, told Uken Report. “This annual effort raises essential funding for sexual and reproductive health care programs and services throughout San Diego, Riverside, and Imperial counties at our 19 health centers. We view the festival as an additional, creative way for the community to be involved with the organization, pairing their passion for Planned Parenthood’s mission with thought-provoking, women-centric films!

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this year’s festival will be held virtually.

“Our team has one goal: To keep the doors of Planned Parenthood open,” Eileen Stern, founder of the event, said. “As pro-choice advocates, we also know that Planned Parenthood is pro-life in the truest sense. Planned Parenthood offers a range of health-care services including life-saving cancer screenings and of course birth control. That is why we continue to work together to keep Planned Parenthood going! ”

The festival features diverse films about women from around the globe. Watch at your leisure anytime between Oct. 11 and Oct. 23.A pass is required to view programming.

All proceeds benefit Planned Parenthood of the Pacific Southwest, serving San Diego, Riverside, and Imperial counties.

This year’s headliner is “Sisters.”

The #MeToo Feature is “Working Woman.”

The International Choice is “Blanka.”
