INDIO — The Rotary Club of Indio is calling all Coachella Valley middle school students to participate in the 2018 Rotary Math Field Day. This year’s event will take place on Saturday, April 28 at John Glenn Middle School in Indio.

Rotary Math Field Day, celebrating its 24th anniversary, is a community wide event celebrating achievements in mathematics by Coachella Valley middle school students. All three school districts in the Coachella Valley and private schools participate. Between 350 to 400 sixth, seventh, and eighth graders are expected to participate. Students compete in a number of mathematical challenges winning recognition for themselves as well as for their schools. The Awards Ceremony begins at 1 p.m. and the top schools at each grade level will be recognized as well as naming the Top Mathematician of each grade level. Who will win this year?

Rotary Math Field Day began in 1995 under the leadership of the late Riverside County Fourth District County Supervisor, John J. Benoit. As president of the Rotary Club of Indio, Benoit found that lack of money in education for extra curricular activities was preventing Coachella Valley middle school students from participating in the Riverside Math Field Day.

Through his vision, the Indio Rotary stepped up and organized this event. With the assistance of Desert Sands Unified School District, the Rotary Club of Indio will host the 24th edition of this event for local students on April 28.

This is the signature project of the Rotary Club of Indio.
