RANCHO MIRAGE – The annual Senior Inspiration Awards luncheon, originally scheduled for Friday, March 13, has been postponed. The Senior Inspiration Awards Committee will seek to reschedule the event to a later date in the 2020 calendar year.

The committee made a decision to reschedule the event in consultation with Supervisor V. Manuel Perez, Committee Chair and Rancho Mirage Councilmember Charles Townsend, and the Riverside County Public Health Officer.

“The Senior Inspiration Awards event is a special tradition that is about recognizing our community’s active senior citizen volunteers,” Supervisor V. Manuel Perez said in a prepared statement. “The decision to postpone this event was made with consideration of the demographics and age group of attendees. We will find another date when we will celebrate our honorees and have a full house of their families, friends and community members showing up to honor them.”

The 2020 honorees are: Judy Bowlin and Ernestina Salas (Riverside County), Carole Sanfilippo of Cathedral City (1943-2019), Eduardo Diaz (Coachella), Courtney Moe (Desert Hot Springs), Linda Blank (Indian Wells), Maureen Boren (Indio), Jeff Smith (La Quinta), Herbert Temple (Palm Desert), Jack Schreckengost (Palm Springs) and Robert Schwarz (Rancho Mirage).

People with tickets will be able to use them for the rescheduled event. Any who wish to get refunds on their tickets can contact Supervisor Perez’s office via ACuen@rivco.org.

“The welfare of our seniors comes first and the decision to postpone this wonderful event did not come without much thought. The city of Rancho Mirage looks forward to hosting this event later in the year, and bringing our seniors together to honor them for their service to the Coachella Valley,” Rancho Mirage Councilmember Charles Townsend, chair of the Senior Inspiration Awards Committee, said in a prepared statement.
