September is Hunger Action Month, Let’s End Hunger Together: Join FIND Food Bank, Desert Cities, and Local Businesses to Address Food Insecurity

 

INDIO, – For Hunger Action Month, this September, FIND Regional Food Bank will once again join Feeding America’s 200 partner food banks across the country for the annual campaign to spread awareness and engage the public in the movement to end hunger.

Hunger Action Month brings attention to the reality that in every community in America, people are working hard to provide for themselves and their families; yet in 2025, 44 million people in 7 people—experienced food insecurity.

In the Coachella Valley, 1 in 6 people experience food insecurity, and the unemployment rate is more than double the national average. That is why FIND Food Bank, the Desert’s Regional Food Bank, is calling on the community for support during Hunger Action Month. Each month, FIND Food Bank serves an average of 122,000 people struggling to make ends meet as inflation stretches household budgets. These efforts are further strained by rising food sourcing and transportation costs, fewer corporate food donations, and the end of federal pandemic nutrition programs.

When people are fed, futures are nourished. Help support a healthy mind and body by donating, organizing a fundraiser, volunteering at the FIND warehouse, contacting your lawmakers to support hunger-relief policies, or sharing nationwide stats on food insecurity on social media. Let’s make a collective effort to fight food insecurity in our community. Every action, big or small, is one step closer to ending hunger.

Eight Coachella Valley cities—Cathedral City, Coachella, Desert Hot Springs, Indian Wells, Indio, La Quinta, Palm Desert, and Rancho Mirage—along with Desert Care Network, Rancho Mirage Library, and Visit Greater Palm Springs, are lighting up orange throughout September in recognition of Hunger Action Month.

Orange is the color of hunger awareness. Its bold color helps draw attention to food insecurity, an issue that often goes unseen in our communities. When you see a city hall, building, or local landmark glowing orange this September, let it serve as a reminder that we can all act. Speak out about hunger, volunteer your time, donate, or help spread awareness to support our neighbors facing food insecurity.

Founded in 1983, FIND Food Bank is the Desert’s Regional Food Bank serving over 10,000 square miles, including eastern Riverside and southern San Bernardino Counties, from the Hi-Desert and Joshua Tree across the Coachella Valley to Anza, down to the Salton Sea and the border of CA and AZ.
