Democratic Women of the Desert Joins First District Supervisor Jose Medina in Calls for Oversight of Sheriff Bianco

RIVERSIDE — First District Supervisor Jose Medina is making good on his November campaign promise to call for more oversight of Sheriff Chad Bianco and his department. Now Medina has company.

The Riverside County Democratic Party strongly supports Supervisor Medina’s motion to establish civilian oversight of the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department,

Democratic Women of the Desert and more also want part of the action, which seems to be building momentum. This move has been tried before and failed.

“Riverside County is an island in California, not suffering from the political plague affecting the rest of state government,” Bianco told Uken Report on Tuesday.  “The truth is the Sheriff’s Office is one of the most scrutinized entities of government with the most amount of oversight.  Constitutionally, ultimate oversight comes with the election of a Sheriff of the people every four years.  Facts unfortunately mean nothing to dishonest activists and anti-law enforcement politicians whose sole intent is to politicize the office of sheriff to do their bidding.   Supervisor Medina should have left his divisive partisan politics in Sacramento, because Riverside County wants no part of it.”

Meantime, Bianco continues an aggressive run for Governor.

On Monday, DWD issued a “Call to Action” for all concerned Riverside County residents. It was paid for by Democratic Women of the Desert,

“Sheriff Chad Bianco’s pattern of egregious failures, lack of transparency, and abuse of power has gone unchecked for too long,” according to the plea. “The time for oversight is now—we cannot afford further silence or inaction. We must mobilize and demand accountability from our County Supervisors ahead of the Riverside County Board of Supervisors meeting on July 29th.”

“The Board of Supervisors oversees our Sheriff – but they need to hear from residents like you. Please plan to attend the meeting (in person or virtually) and tell them what accountability looks like in our community.” The email is not signed but Amalia DeAztlan is president of the group.
