Silvia Paz Also Takes Sabbatical from Nonprofit Job
THERMAL— Silvia Paz, vice president of the Coachella Valley Unified School Board of Trustees, has resigned her position, Uken Report has confirmed. Her resignation came the same day the Joint Legislative Audit Committee rejected a request from Assemblymember Jeff Gonzalez, R-Indio, to consider a full-scale audit of the Coachella Valley Unified School District.
A person with intimate knowledge of the situation said the two are not related. Paz has been considering the move for some time. Her resignation was effective June 17.
Paz, a mother of three small children, is also the Founder & Executive Director of Alianza Coachella Valley, which works to build a healthy and thriving Salton Sea region through campaigns to improve economic, environmental, and educational conditions.
Paz is also taking a sabbatical from that job for a “couple of months” to take care of herself, refresh and rejuvenate. Her own business that operates with a small staff, three small children and a board that is constantly in upheaval is a tremendous load to balance.
Paz did not return numerous phone calls to her residence and let it be known through her surrogates that she has no comment at this rime.
Gonzalez sought the audit for several reasons, including In November, the Riverside County Office of Education publicly warned the district that it could run out of cash during the 2025-26 school year unless it makes roughly $44 million in reductions.
CVUSD Superintendent Frances Esparza was reportedly “in a meeting” all of Friday and could not be reached for comment. Her office would not release a copy of Paz’s letter of resignation.
