Street Medicine Program Transitioning to Eisenhower Health

INDIO — Coachella Valley Volunteers in Medicine is transitioning its Street Medicine Program to Eisenhower Health on Oct. 18, ensuring the continued delivery of medical outreach services for individuals experiencing homelessness throughout the Coachella Valley.
Established by CVVIM in 2016, the Street Medicine Program was the first of its kind in the Coachella Valley and, for many years, the only healthcare program providing physician and nurse practitioner-led medical care directly “on the street.” Over the past eight years, the program delivered more than 3,137 medical and outreach encounters and served 624 individuals experiencing homelessness.
The transition follows a review by the CVVIM Board of Directors and consultation with community organizations and professionals serving individuals experiencing homelessness throughout the region.

“CVVIM is proud to have pioneered Street Medicine in the Coachella Valley,” said Barbara Limardo, MBA, Chair of the CVVIM Board of Directors. “We believe Eisenhower Health is the right organization to lead the program’s next chapter while allowing CVVIM to remain focused on its core mission.”
Eisenhower Health was selected because of its longstanding partnership with CVVIM, including participation in the program through its Family Medicine Residency Program. In 2024, Eisenhower Health expanded its outreach capabilities through the acquisition and licensing of a mobile medical unit made possible through the generosity of the Houston Family Foundation.
Effective October 18, 2026, Eisenhower Health will assume operational and clinical responsibility for the program, building upon the foundation established by CVVIM over the past eight years.
“We are honored to build upon the strong foundation created by CVVIM and continue providing compassionate care to individuals experiencing homelessness throughout the Coachella Valley,” said Victor Cisneros, MD, Chief Community Health Officer, Eisenhower Health.
CVVIM emphasized that the transition does not signal an end to its commitment to individuals experiencing homelessness or other vulnerable populations. The organization will continue providing free medical care through its clinics in Indio and Palm Springs to uninsured adults, including uninsured individuals experiencing homelessness.
