Let us know how you plan to celebrate the first day of summer

The first official day of summer is Sunday, June 20. How will  you celebrate? A day by the pool with a good book? A bike ride? An early-morning walk?

For us, nothing says — actually shouts — summer louder than an ice cream cone. Doesn’t have to be anything fancy. Good old vanilla in a cone will do just fine.

You need, of course, to let it melt it bit so it runs down the side of the cone and gets your fingers all sticky. The icing on the day is spending it with nephews under a blistering sun in the pool followed by a trip to the local walk-up ice cream stand. This is where our cones (one strawberry) famously became known as a “Strawberry Disaster.”

The day is best spent punctuated with laughter.

It’s the longest day of the year, so there’s time to pack in a multitude of activities.

PositivelyPresent.com created a list of 7 Super Ways to Celebrate the entire Summer season:

  • Spend a lot of time outside.
  • Pay attention to nature.
  • Enjoy summertime foods.
  • There’s nothing quite like summertime foods to remind you of how great summer is.
  • Sit outside at restaurants.
  • Appreciate the warm nights.
  • Take a day (or a few!) off.
  • Make good use of long days.

Two of our favorite holidays fall in summer: Memorial Day and Fourth of July.
