Red Robin Rancho Mirage Hosts Tip-A-Cop Fundraiser

RANCHO MIRAGE — Uniformed deputies from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department and officers from the California Highway Patrol will host and serve diners at Red Robin Gourmet Burgers and Brews for the Tip-A-Cop Fundraiser.

Watch these law enforcement officials work for tips on Nov. 10 from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. All tip proceeds will benefit the Special Olympics Southern California and are tax deductible. All money raised at the Red Robin Tip-A-Cop Fundraiser in Rancho Mirage will benefit Special Olympics athletes in the local community.

“Special Olympics Southern California shares a special bond with law enforcement,” Abbey Leffler, development director for Special Olympics Southern California, told Uken Report. “Officers are the ‘Guardians of the Flame,’ which symbolizes courage and celebration of diversity and unites communities across the globe. Through the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics, officers help to spread awareness and raise funds for local Special Olympic athletes. More than 3,000 officers and 200 agencies in Southern California have joined together to raise tens of millions of dollars (including $1.5 million in 2019) for SOSC.”

Officers and deputies have participated  n this popular event for about a decade. This Tip-A-Cop effort has raised approximately $20,000 in it’s 10-year history to support local Special Olympics athletes, according to Leffler.

Jennifer Ali of Joshua Tree is one of those athletes. Read her story here,

Devon Thompson, is a Special Olympics Southern California athlete in the Inland Empire region who has also benefitted from the Tip-A-Cop fundraiser. He grew up with limited language and verbal skills. Read more about him here.

In June 2018, Amanda Maling, also of Joshua Tree was a team member of the Morongo Basin bocce team that traveled to the USA Games in Seattle.

Guests will order their meal off the Red Robin menu.  Officers and deputies will collect ‘tips’ and donate all of them to support athletes in the local community.
