A Palm Desert woman has been named to the Board of Directors for the California School Board Association (CSBA).

Wendy Jonathan, a member of the Desert Sands Unified School Board of Education, was appointed to fill the vacant position of Region 18 Director, according to Mary E. B. Perry,Public Information Officer for DSUSD. The Board of Directors sets the direction for the association.

“I am honored to have been appointed to the California School Board Association Board of Directors,” Jonathan said via a message. “I look forward to representing Riverside County and Imperial County in advocating for the needs of our students.”

Jonathan is a former schoolteacher with 25 years of experience as an elementary school teacher; her last 11 with the Desert Sands Unified School District. She retired in June 2012 from Ronald Reagan Elementary School.

Jonathan has her GATE (Gifted and Talented) credential as well as her International Baccalaureate credential. While teaching she served as the GATE Coordinator, Odyssey of the Mind Coach, Science Fair Coordinator, and Math Field Coordinator. She continues to volunteer her time as a judge at the district science fair.

Jonathan was first elected to the Board of Education in November 2012. Her current term expires in December 2020.

In a prepared statement the CSBA said, “We are delighted to add such a distinguished educator and governance team member to our ranks. The Board looks forward to working with Wendy to support and strengthen school districts and county offices of education and to improve outcomes for all of California’s 6.2 million public school students.”
