UR: How do you deal with conflict? Give us an example.

Yadira Perez: My profession has shown me to have patience, be an active listening, and provide clear communication which have assisted with dealing with conflicts. For example, I responded to a situation where ex-wife and ex-husband were in a heated dispute over child custody issues. Instead of jumping in with immediate solutions, I took a moment to listen to both sides. I acknowledged their frustrations and ensured them I could see why each of them were upset. I encouraged them to go back to mediation as well as have other family members assist with child custody exchange to prevent further arguments especially in front of their children. By exercising patience, I was able to diffuse the tension and create a more open environment for discussion. After understanding their perspective, in which they reached an agreement that satisfied both parties. This experience reinforced my belief that taking the time to listen and approach conflicts calmly can lead to more effective and lasting resolutions as well build a rapport with the citizens.

UR: Does Coachella need to change way it’s been doing business? Change its image? If so, in what way?
