Coachella City Council Races Will Bring New Faces to Board

COACHELLA —As registered voters prepare to cast their ballots on Nov. 5 in City Council races, they will be voting for mayor. They will have a choice between a popular incumbent, Steven Hernandez, and a member of the City Council who is completing his firstf four-year term, Frank Figeruoa. You can learn more about him here: https://ukenreport.com/frank-figueroa-looks-to-oust-mayor-hernandez/

Hernandez is seeking his sixth two-year term.

In addition to mayor’s post, there are two seats on the city’s five-member City Council that need to be filled. Each is a four-year term.

Incumbent Denise Delagado is seeking re-election to her seat while incumbent Neftali Galarza is not, which means at least one new face will be added to the board.

In addition to Delgado, three other candidates also will be on the ballot, including Yadira Perez, a criminal investigator for the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department, Kimberly Miranda, a member of state Assemblymember Eduardo Garcia’s staff, and Marcos Granados Jr., a longtime agricultural worker.

Uken Report distributed a questionnaire to all candidates. Participation was voluntary. The responses of those who participated can be found in the politics section of this website.

The deadline to register to vote for the Nov. 5 election is Oct. 21. If you miss the deadline, you can still register to vote until Election Day and follow the Same Day Voter Registration process, but you will not be registered as a confidential voter. Starting Oct. 7, the Registrar of Voters will begin mailing each registered voter a Vote-by-Mail ballot and election material. Ballots must be postmarked on or before Election Day and received by the elections official within seven days after Election Day to be counted.
