Gonzalez Offers Legislative Update on Lithium Valley Bill and More

GonzalezINDIO — AB 2163, passed out of the Assembly Utilities and Energy Committee with bipartisan support, Assemblyman Jeff Gonzalez, R–Indio, reported in a legislative update.

AB 2163 would require state agencies to consider the full energy potential of Lithium Valley when making decisions and budget allocations related to California’s energy future, including future development and output in the region.

“Lithium Valley is a major opportunity for our region and our state,” Gonzalez said.  “This bill ensures it’s part of the conversation as California plans for its energy future.”

The bill now moves to the Assembly Appropriations Committee for consideration.

In another legislative update, Gonzalez announced that AB 2022, legislation to expand property tax exemptions for disabled veteran homeowners, has passed out of the Assembly Revenue and Taxation Committee with bipartisan support.

AB 2022 seeks to provide meaningful tax relief to disabled veterans by helping reduce the financial burden of homeownership, ensuring those who have sacrificed for our country can more easily afford to remain in their homes.

“As Vice Chair of the Assembly Military and Veterans Affairs Committee, I made a commitment to come to Sacramento and be a fighter for the men and women who have served our nation,” Gonzalez said. “AB 2022 is about keeping that promise — standing up for our disabled veterans and making sure they receive the support and recognition they have earned.”

The bill is part of Assemblyman Gonzalez’s broader effort to improve affordability for California families while prioritizing those who have given so much in service to the country.

AB 2022 will next be heard in the Assembly Appropriations Committee.

Gonzalez represents Imperial County and portions of Riverside and San Bernardino County in the California Legislature. District 36 includes Anza, Blythe, Brawley, Calexico, Coachella, El Centro, Hemet, Holtville, Imperial, Indio, Mecca, Salton City, Thermal, Westmorland, Winchester, and Winterhaven.
