Cathedral City begins search to fill assistant city manager vacancy

CATHEDRAL CITY — About a year after Katherine Fuentes was hired as this city’s first assistant city manager, she has departed.

Fuentes, who was out on maternity leave earlier this year, has decided to focus full time on motherhood for a while after welcoming her newborn into the world, Ryan Hunt, communications and events manager said. Her last day with the city was Oct. 28.

Fuentes was selected following a nationwide recruitment process that attracted more than 200 applicants. Before relocating to Cathedral City, she served as assistant city manager for the City of Pico Rivera.

Until Fuentes was hired, Cathedral City, the second most populous city in Coachella Valley with 55,000 people, had not had an assistant city manager.

As with many of its executive searches, the city has hired Bob Murray and Associates to oversee the recruitment process.

The annual salary range for the Assistant City Manager is $182,557.04 – $238,961.18, according to a job description Bob Murray and Associates posted. Placement within this salary range is dependent upon qualifications and experience.

This position requires a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in Business Administration, Public Administration, or a related field; a master’s degree is highly desirable. Candidates must also have six (6) years of increasingly responsible administrative and analytical experience in a public sector setting. Experience in working with varied public agencies and with citizens’ organizations is also desirable.

The filing deadline for applications is Nov. 27.
