City Council to consider an agreement that would allow public to use high school swimming pool

CATHEDRAL CITY — For the second consecutive year, the Cathedral City City Council will consider a Joint Use Agreement with the Palm Springs Unified School District and Desert Recreation District so the public can use the Cathedral City High School Olympic-size swimming pool during the 2023 summer months.

The proposed agreement is on the agenda at Wednesday’s City Council meeting. Staff recommends the City Council approve it.

The three parties developed a similar agreement in 2022 and the swimming pool operated for public use for the first time during the summer of 2022.

It provided a much-needed respite during the scorch of triple-digit temperatures.

If approved, the Desert Recreation District will provide the following summer swim programs at the CCHS swimming pool:

  • Community Swimming Lessons (Youth and Adult),
  • Open Recreational Swim,
  • Team & Lap Swim,
  • Summer Special Events (limited),
  • Water Polo Programming,

  • Agua Fit Water Aerobics

  • Monday – Saturday 6 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. & 1:30 p.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Sunday 6 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Permitted Uses of the swimming pool would include:

  • Community swimming lessons;
  • Recreational swimming;
  • Lap swimming;
  • Team swimming;
  • Water aerobics;
