CDPH Celebrates Mother’s Day with Spanish-Language Outreach Urging Latinos to Continue Getting Vaccinated

SACRAMENTO – The California Department of Public Health (CDPH) is urging families to continue getting vaccinated through the “Let’s Get to ImmUnity” campaign, in honor of Mother’s Day on Sunday, May 9 and Mexican Mother’s Day on Monday, May 10.

CDPH will be reaching over 550,000 Latinos in the Los Angeles area through advertising on four high traffic billboards off the 710 freeway and Firestone Blvd in South Gate. Additionally, paid social media posts will be elevated statewide, along with organic social media posts featuring video testimonials and dialogues between mothers and their children, in hopes to inspire positive actions towards scheduling an appointment to receive the vaccine.

“As families across the state celebrate our mothers and mother-figures, we also want to take the time to remind people that getting vaccinated is the best way to ensure we can safely gather,” said Dr. Tomás J. Aragón, Director and State Public Health Officer. “Mother’s Day is another opportunity to reach people in creative ways and reiterate the COVID-19 vaccinations are safe, effective and widely available at no cost for all eligible Californians.”

Through CDPH’s partnership with Latino digital media publisher HCode, HipLatina’s Chief Editor will interview a medical expert from Kaiser Permanente which will be streamed live on both HipLatina and CDPH’s Facebook pages.

The “Let’s Get to ImmUnity” campaign launched statewide in early March as part of California’s broader Vaccinate ALL 58 effort to help educate, motivate, and activate Californians to get vaccinated through radio, print, TV and billboard advertisements.

This public education campaign is an important part of the state’s plan for equitable vaccine administration that includes allocating 40 percent of doses to communities with the highest disease burden, leveraging partnerships with community-based organizations, and establishing the My Turn vaccine appointment and management system as a cornerstone of the state’s vaccine data analytics.
