Vacation Bible Schoolers Raise Money for Mobile Shower Program for Unhoused
PALM DESERT — Camp Hope’s “Live It Out” week, also known as Vacation Bible School, at Hope Palm Desert was a week of fun, faith, and service. With 100 children, they learned how to love like Jesus—and living it out in big ways never imagined. The children were instrumental in raising $7,300 for a mobile shower program for the unhoused.
The money will be used to pay for 730 showers, 30% of whom will be for women.
Each day, campers donated to help Overflow 9:12, a local shower trailer ministry serving the unhoused in Coachella Valley. This ministry provides showers, hygiene kits, and clean clothes—plus love, dignity, and hope.
The goal was $5,000, which covers 500 showers. The campers clearly exceeded their goal. Even more, each shower will be paired with a Card of Hope, created by the kids with Scripture and messages of love and encouragement.
Overflow 9:12, is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit charity, draws its name from 2 Corinthians 9:12.
The ministry was founded by Gary Paxton and Jackie Kouri about two ago. It is growing rapidly and they are looking to add another mobile trailer.
“Every time one is held, it’s like a pop-up village,” Paxton said. “It’s the best thing we’ve ever done in our lives.”
