COACHELLA – This community is kicking off the holiday season in a big way with two free community events this week.

Coachella Prepares to Kick Off Holiday SeasonThe annual Holiday Tree Lighting event is set for Wednesday, Dec. 7 at 5:30 p.m. right in front of City Hall on Sixth Street where city officials will flip the switch to illuminate the tree synchronized to a music light show in the downtown area. Celebrations that evening will include a special visit from Santa and Mrs. Clause, as well as free food samples for enjoyment.

Just two days later, the city will host its annual holiday parade with a unique anime theme on Friday, Dec. 9th beginning at 6 p.m. The parade will start on Cesar Chavez Street and Westerfield Way, and will make its way to Veterans’ Memorial Park where festivities will continue with an ice slide, carnival rides, a live DJ, s’mores station and food vendors.

“The Holiday Tree Lighting and Holiday Parade add such a sense of magic and excitement to our downtown this time of year,” Mayor Steven Hernandez said in a statement. “We all enjoy seeing everyone from our seniors to the kids getting into the holiday spirit.”

This year’s parade will be hosted by Bea Gonzalez, Community Leader and Desert Community College District Area 2 Trustee. Top parade participants will receive trophies for their execution of this year’s anime parade theme.

“I’m really looking forward to seeing a theme that is so popular with the community, especially our youth, represented in this year’s parade,” Councilman Neftali Galarza said in a statement. “It’ll be a great time for sure!”
