Alleged Slap Was Not Slap [Opinion]

The following opinion is in response to the article published June 5 titled, “Palm Desert Mayor Alleges Colleague Slapped Her.”

I viewed the video of the alleged slap regarding Kathleen Kelly.  In my humble opinion, that was not a slap. It was nothing.  It looks like they were positioning themselves for the picture.

If it was such an issue, why did it take more than two-and-a-half months to report it? This type of fault finding is not good for the peace and harmony of our city government.  It creates division where there shouldn’t be one.  There needs to be forgiveness all around, and then move on.

I support and agree with our mayor on many things, but this is not one of them. The mayor made a great speech on Memorial Day at the Peace Pole dedication at Civic Center Park, in which I also spoke.

With all the topics to be concerned about in our community, is this really necessary? I would hope our city officials and those in attendance at the meeting will agree.

Also, another point occurred to me.  If this was an assault, why weren’t the police called at the time?

Kathleen Kelly has been a member of the clergy at St. Margarets Episcopal Church. She would never do anything deliberately to hurt anyone.  Her life has been one of service to others. Her father, Mr. Dick Kelly served on the Palm Desert city council for many years.  He is fondly remembered in the community. Kathleen has been a wonderful public servant and deeply cares about Palm Desert, the city she loves.
